Learn to love and care
Here I am sitting on a couch alone,thinking about what I have just finished reading with tears of sadness filling my eyes and fire of indignation filling my heart,which revived my exhausted soul that has already been covered by the cruelty and the selfishness of the secular world for a long time. It is truly what I felt after reading Oliver Twist,written by the prominent British author Charles Dickens.
The resonance between me and the book makes me feel not only the kindness and the wickedness of all the characters in the novel,but what this aloof society lacks,and what I lack deep inside. These supreme resources I’m talking about right now are somewhat different from minerals,oil that we usually mention. They’re abstract like feelings,and some kinds of spiritual stimulation that all of us desire anxiously from one another ---- love and care.
Those charitable figures whom Dickens created in the novel are really what we need in life. They showed love and care to others,just as the gentle rain from the sky fell upon the earth,which was carved into my heart deeply.
Mr. Brownlow is one such person.
The other day he had one of his elaborate watches stolen by two skilled teenage thieves,Artful Dodger and Charley Bates,and thought naturally it was Oliver,who was an orphan and forced to live with a gang of thieves,that had done it because he was the only one near by after the theft had taken place.
Being wrathful,he caught Oliver,and sent him to the police station where the ill-tempered,unfair magistrates worked. Fortunately for him,Oliver was proved innocent by one onlooker afterwards. With sympathy,Mr. Brownlow took the injured,poor Oliver to his own home. There Oliver lived freely and gleefully for some months as if he were Mr. Brownlow’s own son. One day,however,Mr. Brownlow asked Oliver to return some books to the bookseller and to send some money for the new books that he had already collected. The thief Oliver once stayed with kidnapped him. After that he disappeared in Mr.
Brownlow’s life. Searching for a while,Mr. Brownlow had to believe the fact that he had run away with his money. But dramatically,they came across each other again a few years later. Without hesitation,Mr. Brownlow took Oliver home for the second time not caring if he had done something evil.
Perhaps most of us would feel confused about Mr. Brownlow’s reaction. But as a matter of fact,this is just the lesson we should learn from him.

They denied Oliver’s crime immediately and listened attentively to Oliver’s own description of his miserable life. They were deeply touched by Oliver’s strong perseverance and astonishing vitality. Accordingly,they remedied Oliver’s body and heart and turned him into a different boy. He began to wear appropriate and clean suits which were tailor-made for him and receive education.

Charles Dickens is a English novelist, generally considered the greatest of the Victorian period. Dickens's works are characterized by attacks on social evils,injustice, and hypocrisy. He had also experienced in his youth oppression, when he was forced to end school in early teens and work in a factory. Dickens's good, bad,and comic characters, such as the cruel miser Scrooge, the aspiring novelist David Copperfield, or the trusting and innocent Mr. Pickwick, have fascinated generations of readers. Charles Dickens was born in Landport, Hampshire, during the new industrial age, which gave birth to theories of Karl Marx. Dickens's father was aclerk in the navy pay office. He was well paid but often ended in financial troubles. In 1814 Dickens moved to London, and then to Chatham, where he received some education. The schoolmaster William Giles gave special attention to Dickens, who made rapid progress. In 1824, at the age of 12, Dickens was sent to work for some months at a blacking factory, Hungerford Market, London, while his father John was in Marshalea debtor's prison. "My father and mother were quite satisfied," Dickens later recalled bitterly. "They could hardly have been more so, if I had been twenty years of age, distinguished at a grammar-school, and going to Cambridge." Later this period found its way to the novel LITTLE DORRITT (1855-57). John Dickens paid his 40 debt with the money he inherited from his mother; she died at the age of seventy-nine when he was still in prison. Dickens's sharp ear for conversation helped him to create colorful characters through their own words. The publisher, William Hall, now commissioned Dickens to write The Pickwick Papers in twenty monthly installments. This was followed by Oliver Twist, published in Bentley's Miscellany (1837-38) and Nicholas Nickleby (1838-39), also published

Oliver Twist is notable for Dickens' unromantic portrayal of criminals and their sordid lives.[1] The book also exposed the cruel treatment of many a waif-child in London, which increased international concern in what is sometimes known as "The Great London Waif Crisis". An early example of the social novel, the book calls the public's attention to various contemporary evils, including the Poor Law that stated that poor people should work in workhouses, child labour and the recruitment of children as criminals. Dickens mocks the hypocrisies of the time by surrounding the novel's serious themes with sarcasm and dark humour. The novel may have been inspired by the story of Robert Blincoe, an orphan whose account of his hardships as a child labourer in a cotton mill was widely read in the 1830s. Obviously, Dickens' own early youth—he was vulnerable, and a child labourer—must have also entered.

in a world where his only options seem to be the workhouse, Fagin's thieves, aprison or an early grave. From this unpromising industrial setting, however, a fairy tale also emerges: In the midst of corruption and degradation, the essentially passive Oliver remains pure-hearted; he steers away from evil when those around him give in to it; and, in proper fairy-tale fashion, he eventually receives his reward—leaving for a peaceful life in the country, surrounded by kind friends. On the way to this happy ending, Dickens explores the kind of life an orphan, outcast boy could expect to lead in 1830s London.
Poverty and social class
Poverty is a prominent concern in Oliver Twist. Throughout the novel, Dickens enlarges on this theme, describing slums so decrepit that whole rows of houses are on the point of ruin. In an early chapter, Oliver attends a pauper's funeral with Mr. Sowerberry and sees a whole family crowded together in one miserable room.
This ubiquitous misery makes Oliver's encounters with charity and love more poignant. Oliver's workhouse origins place him at the nadir of society; as an orphan without friends, he is routinely despised. His "sturdy spirit" keeps him alive despite the torment he must endure. Most of his associates, however, deserve their place among society's dregs and seem very much at home in the depths. Noah Claypole,a charity boy like Oliver, is idle, stupid, and cowardly; Sikes is a thug; Fagin lives by corrupting children; and the Artful Dodger seems born for a life of crime. Many of the middle-class people Oliver encounters—Mrs. Sowerberry, Mr. Bumble, and the savagely hypocritical "gentlemen" are worse.
Symbolism
Dickens makes considerable use of symbolism. The many symbols Oliver faces are primarily good versus evil, with evil continually trying to corrupt and exploit good, but good winning out in the end. The "merry old gentleman" Fagin, for example, has satanic characteristics: he is a veteran corrupter of young boys who presides over his own corner of the criminal world; he makes his first appearance standing over a fire holding a toasting-fork; and he refuses to pray on the night before his
execution.The London slums, too, have a suffocating, infernal aspect; the dark deeds and dark passions are concretely characterised by dim rooms, and pitch-black nights, while the governing mood of terror and brutality may be identified with uncommonly cold weather. In contrast, the countryside where the Maylies take Oliver is a pastoral heaven.
Food is another important symbol; Oliver's odyssey begins with a simple request for more gruel, and Mr. Bumble's shocked exclamation, represents he may be after more than just gruel.
The novel is also shot through with a related motif, obesity, which calls attention to the stark injustice of Oliver's world. When the half-starved child dares to ask for more, the men who punish him are fat. It is interesting to observe the large number of characters who are overweight. The author created a group of bad men.
Fagin, an old man, with a horribly ugly face and red hair, was the head of those thieves. He tried to make Oliver be a criminal.
Bill Sikes was a cruel and evil man in the group. He had a bad temper.
Monks, Oliver’s brother, did bad things to hurt Oliver. He wanted to get the legacies left by his father alone. He paid Fagin to trap Oliver into a life of crime. In fact, they were all afraid of being put into prison and being hanged. They can’t live happily.
Nancy, a poor girl, loved a bad man. She had to help Bill Sikes perpetrate, because she loved him. She had to be loyal to the criminal group, because she loved him. Actually, she was kind. She helped Oliver at the risk of her life. If she hadn’t fell in love with Sikes, she would have a happy ending.
The author showed these ugly things to us, he described an ugly world.

“Oliver Twist” is a realisticnovel of the British author Charles Dickens. It was published in 1838. This story based on the background of London, telling the tragic life experience and encounter of an orphan. Oliver grew up in an orphanage, experienced apprenticeship hard refugees. He experienced many difficulties and bravely overcame them. No matter how hard the situation was, he still held good hope and kindness in his heart.
Therefore, he got help from kind-hearted people who know his life experiece and got happiness. I am moved by this inspirational story and this brave, kind little boy. I think that no matter what happens to us, we can never lose hope, kindness and braveness, because these are the motivations that can support us to go on.

First of all, Im sorry that I havent read Dickenss novel. Ive read a tale of two cities. Its also a compressed version. I dont remember it. It is found that the biggest failure of middle school education is to pour the titles of these masterpieces to the students, but not to give them the possibility of reading. Over time, a lot of names and authors have been recorded, but none of the books have been read, and
the interest of reading has been reduced. Of course, it has something to do with the students laziness. I am a very lazy person, and I dont like reading foreign novels very much. I always feel that the translated things are wrong again, distortion is the second, and mixed with the translators personal thoughts. This movie reminds me of a long time ago, probably in high school, watching "les miserables", are very realistic works. The tone of the movie is gray, the most common color, but it will never make people feel tired. Just like the most simple green brick and grey wall in ancient gardens, it cant compare with the red paint gate, but now we can see only the green brick and grey wall, and the red paint gate cant stand the time. One of the important reasons why I dont like reading foreign novels is that I cant remember the names of the characters, such as tonights Oliver Twist. Read "Oliver Twist", let me be the hero of this book - Oliver. At the same time, he felt disgust and regret for the street criminals in London in the 1830s. Oliver. Tweester was born in a workhouse. Poor boy was orphaned at birth. He was thrown into a world full of poverty and crime, starved, beaten and scolded, and no one ever loved him.

Charles Dickens is one of the greatest writers in the England。 He was bornin a poor family， but later he became famous and rich。 The famous novel --A Taleof Two Cities is written by him， too。
This novel shows us the cruelty and crime of London。 Oliver Twist， thehero， is a poor orphan。 He lived in a life filled with taunts。 Nobody loved him。With visions of his future， he decided to go to London。 He thought a new lifewas ing， but he was wrong， a group of thieves were waiting for him。
The author created a group of bad men。
Fagin， an old man， with a horribly ugly face and red hair， was the head ofthose thieves。 He tried to make Oliver be a criminal。
Bill Sikes was a cruel and evil man in the group。 He had a bad temper。
Monks， Oliver’s brother， did bad things to hurt Oliver。 He wanted to getthe legacies left by his father alone。 He paid Fagin to trap Oliver into a lifeof crime。 In fact， they were all afraid of being put into prison and beinghanged。 They can’t live happily。
Nancy， a poor girl， loved a bad man。 She had to help Bill Sikes perpetrate，because she loved him。 She had to be loyal to the criminal group， because sheloved him。 Actually， she was kind。 She helped Oliver at the risk of her life。 Ifshe hadn’t fell in love with Sikes， she would have a happy ending。
The author showed these ugly things to us， he described an ugly world。 Butthere are more kind people in the novel。
Mr。 Brownlow， an old friend of Oliver’s father， took good care ofOliver。
Mrs。 Maylie， Harry Maylie’s mother， saved Oliver of his life。
Miss Rose is the aunt of Oliver， in fact。
They all protect Oliver from hurt。
Oliver was unlucky to meet so many evil people， but he was luckier to gethelp from so many kind people。
In the end of the novel， all the evil people were punished。 Oliver got whathe should get。 Rose married Harry Maylie and they lived happily。 All the kindpeople have a happy ending。
Righteousness can always beat evil。 I think this is what the author wantsto tell。 Although there are many ugly things in the world， we must believe thatrighteousness can always beat evil。
We must store kindness even though we are in ugly situation。 One is poor ifhe doesn’t have kindness。 One is rich if he has kindness。 So please store yourkindness in your mind。
What’s more， the novel also tells us to be brave。 Oliver was brave enoughto overe all the problems he had met。 No matter how difficult the problem is， wecan’t give up， we must try our best to solve it。
From Oliver Twist ， I have learnt a lot 。It’s really a good novel。
